Message from the President & CEO

Human service agencies throughout Long Island, and indeed the nation, are increasingly challenged by the difficult economic and social conditions facing them.

Working in partnership with governmental agencies, schools, community businesses and civic leaders, as well as a wide range of caring intern students and volunteers, all with a shared sense of commitment, has helped the Community Center to maintain its vibrancy and leadership over the past fifty years that the Levitown community celebrated in 1997.

A strong committed Board of Trustees is the foundation upon which any successful not-for-profit organization is built. This administration and the Board of Trustees are extremely grateful to the many committed individuals who have provided the Community Center with their support and participation over the years. With a dedicated, professional staff, the work entrusted to our administration has moved steadily and successfully forward.

As funding streams continue to shrink each day, many citizens do not wish to pay any additional taxes to fund human service programs. It is imperative that we become more creative in our efforts to remain strong and vibrant. New funding streams and approaches must be tapped into to include:
(1) increased corporate sector funding,
(2) individual donors,
(3) an expanded public relations campaign and marketing blitz of Community Center services and
(4) endowment contributions. This will give new hope to the hundreds of individuals who will seek YOM's services. We must begin to think toward possible affiliations and mergers when the appropriate time arises.

As we renew and rededicate ourselves to finding better ways to service the varied needs of the citizens of Levittown and surrounding communities, we welcome your continued involvement and support. Through increased collaboration and forging new partnerships with community groups and individuals, we can help to ensure that vital programs and services are not only provided but also expanded and improved.

James A. Edmondson
 President & CEO
