Volunteer organizations
have always been part of Levittown
history. Our first fire department
was made up of volunteers, a tradition,
which continues till today as the Levittown
Fire Department celebrates its 50th
anniversary. Our school district board
of education has always served voluntarily.
The Wantagh-Levittown Ambulance Corps,
staffed solely by volunteers, has served
the community brilliantly since its
inception. The Levittown Property Owners
Association, supported by a $5 membership
fee per family who purchased a home
in Levittown was a viable and thriving
organization from the onset. LPOA served
the community not only as a collective
voice of the community members, but
as a watchdog group that kept residents
informed of what bureaucratic changes
would impact their lives.
Service organizations such
as Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary and Exchange
clubs have always had a presence in
the community and have served the community
well by helping individuals in need
of food, services and a variety of
benefits.
Veterans were the reason
Levittown was built and our veteran
organizations, all-volunteer groups,
provide an ongoing reminder of the
hamlets roots and our patriotic
responsibilities.
The newest volunteer organization
in town is the Levittown Community
Council established in 1998 as an umbrella
group for organizations and residents.
Its purpose is to bring people together
for the common good and to maintain
and establish pride and unity in the
Levittown Community.
YOM is an important member
of the Levittown Community Council
and its delegates, who, in turn, report
back to YOM on the activities of the
Council, keep our members abreast of
its activities. Every member organization
is entitled to three delegates to represent
the organization at the Council.
